Brain Injury Awareness

March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month.
You can click on the banner at the top of the page (no longer active) for more information.

I am involved with Brain Injury because our oldest son, Curtis, suffered a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) in a car accident in 2006.

There are a couple of publications at the AZ Governor's Council website that you can print off and keep with medical/first aid items. They are not just specific to Arizona. I give these out quite a lot.

These are pdf files. Click on the links below. (Links have been fixed)

Are You Worried About Your Head or Brain?

  1. That would be so scary. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
In fact, after Natasha Richardson's skiing accident where she had a bump on the head and then died I think we all need to be more aware that it can happen in other places too besides just car accidents!

  3. Thanks Valarie. As an ER nurse I see this all the time.
    Concussed kids longer to heal.
Parents are sometimes so crazy to have their kids in sports, and coaches can be lame, it's scary what can happen.

  4. head/brain injuries are very serious indeed.
I was lucky that when I was in my head on car collision when 17, that I didn't suffer any brain damage.

however, there are those who might beg to differ (tee, hee)

  6. Valerie, TBI is close to my heart too. Our daughter (who was in the fire) had a TBI at the age of 4 when she was struck while one the sidewalk by a drunk driver. It changed our life. My prayers go with you and your family. I hope all will be well and hopefully Curtis is only having migraines and not something more serious.
