Odds & Ends June 2011 Edition

Holy cow!!! Is it July already?
In honor of it being almost a whole month since I last blogged...
And because Emily would like the picture of her swollen face to NOT be the first thing that pops up on my blog...I bring you another "Odds & Ends" post.

Emily is feeling much better~ finally!
She ended up getting dry socket in not one, but two of the tooth extraction sights! Dry socket hurts. A lot. And the treatment is altogether quite unpleasant. (Packing the socket with clove oil soaked gauze). Did I mention it was painful? And unpleasant? And she had to have one of the every-two-days treatments done on her 21st Birthday! What a way to celebrate!
We did go to the Parade of Homes once she was feeling a little better. We had a lot of fun! I wish I would have thought to take pictures. So many great ideas!!!

First trip to the lake.
Did I say first trip? Make that only trip (so far).

It was still beautiful and wonderful and relaxing.

We didn't catch a single fish.
Okay by me! (I don't care much for fish)

We did have fun! And someone (me) got a little sunburned!

We took a little evening trip down to Manti to see the

It's been kind of a difficult few weeks.
We are dealing with an unpleasant situation (that I can't blog about right now).

We also had a death in the family.
My dad's youngest brother passed away & his funeral was this past Monday.
I think it's gonna be a little hard on my dad.

And this Sunday will mark one year since Amy's death.
I still miss her so much!

Other than all that~ my life is just like yours:
A little crazy
A little busy
Just life.

Happy 4th of July!

  1. Time is flying by for sure.

Sorry about the tooth. Dental issues are the worst.

Sorry about your dad's brother. And all the hard stuff that seems to happen even when we don't deserve it or expect it.

Enjoy the sunshine and water today.

  2. Wow... you certainly have had quite a month.
Yes, dry socket hurts... kills is more like it. Ouch! I'm glad that she got through that.
Please accept my condolences on the death of your uncle. It's hard to lose a loved one. And, I will be sending you thoughts and prayers on the anniversary of Amy's death. Another hard one too.
Whatever you are going through right now, I pray that you will get through it. I know why life has to be so hard... it's part of the plan. Doesn't mean we have to like it, does it ??!!
Hopefully, you will all have a great 4th of July, and make some wonderful, happy summer memories :)

  3. It's hard to believe that it has been a year since Amy's death. Time really does fly by!
Poor Emily! She will always remember her 21st birthday as the birthday from H---! Feel bad for her but glad that's behind her now.
It does look peaceful at the lake. I hope you can go again. Remember the sunscreen this time!
Sorry about the death of your uncle. I hope your Dad does OK.
I hope that whatever the unpleasant situation is will be taken care of.

Have a Happy 4th of July! Miss you!

  7. I love the Parade of Homes here. I go with my children every year, but this year we had to skip the tradition because my studying took up too much time. We were all sad. Glad you got to go to the lake and to the Manti pagaent. The day of my final, I was gonna take my girls there (Alexander was at scout camp), but Elisa complained that it was too boring. Next year, I hope!

It has been a year since Amy passed away. I remember going to the bake/yard sale for her. I hope her family (including you of course) has been able to feel peace and often feel her near.

  9. I really disliked doing dry socket packings when I was a dental assistant. There's just no nice way to do it. Poor Emily! Glad she's doing better though.

Wow, I'm so sorry for your losses! It sounds like it's been a really hard month. Hang in there Valerie, and remember how many of us are cheering for you!

  11. It's hard when we lose those we love. I imagine it will be hard for those who love us when it's our time as well...
