Life, According to Shane

Yesterday when I picked Shane up after school,
he asked me why I always look like I'm sick when I come to get him.

???

Me: "What do you mean?"
Shane: "You never get dressed or do your hair or anything."

???

Later, I was telling the fam what he had said.
In an attempt to clarify his position, he said I always wear my pajamas to pick him up...

???

In my defense, I have been sick, but I have NEVER, EVER gone to pick him up in my pajamas!!!
And yesterday I had done my hair & put on makeup & thought I looked alright.
What a blow to my self-esteem! :)

What Shane thinks I dress like:

How Shane thinks I should dress everyday:

(Last month, he asked me why I don't dress up like the Principal, Mrs. K.)
I did ask her (she's a friend) if she could tone it down a little...she's making me look bad!

What I think I look like:

What I actually look like:

(Jeans and a shirt...my usual apparel. And crocs...)

Maybe I do need to step up my game a little, get in touch with my
inner June Cleaver.

I've got it! I'll throw on a pair of pearls when I pick him up today!!!

Note to Shane: I think you should ride the bus home after school. Just sayin'.

Life, According to Shane

Moving Day was a long day,to say the least.
We were all up bright and early since in addition to moving, the boys also started school the same day.
Is that great planning, or what?
It was almost an hour drive to get them to school.
Perk for them was getting breakfast at McDonalds!

Moving took forever.
We hired a moving company to load, transport and unload all the boxes.
The packing and unpacking were done by us.
(Well...the unpacking will eventually be done by us!)

We finally got to the new place about 9:30 that night.
The boys were pooped.
And stressed.

It was the first time we had driven to the new house at night.
In the dark.
There are no streetlights where we live!
It was a little disconcerting.

Then, as we pulled into the driveway and opened the car doors,
we were serenaded by a symphony of crickets.
Lots and lots of rather loudish crickets...

Shane: "Well, that's going to be annoying to try and go to sleep to!"

I'm happy to report, we are all sleeping just fine.

And...The Answer Is?

Does this help clarify?

Of course!  He was hiding "gold" for his action figures to find!  What's a knight if he doesn't have some hidden treasure to look for?  Shane would hide the gold and the action figures (there may have been some combat dudes, a cowboy and a Rescue Hero or two in on the hunt as well, although there was no sign of Spiderman.) would have to find them.
Now I know why I keep finding gold wrapped bouillon cubes scattered all over the house!
That kid has one great imagination!

Have You Any Idea?

Have you any idea what a 9 year old boy might be doing with these?

That's right.  Chicken. Bouillon.  I found a stash of it in his room.
Hmmm....what IS this kid up to?
The answer will be posted tomorrow.

Life, According to Shane

Shane went with me to the store a few days ago. This was our "hilarious" conversation:

Shane: "Mom, who will teach me how to drive when I get my learner's permit"
(His older brother just got his permit).
"Because you will probably be dead by then."

Me: Blank stare, awkward silence. (Yeah, how do you respond to that?)
Stammering..."I'm only 43, so that will make me what? 51?"

Shane: "Exactly!"

I didn't hear the rest of the conversation, because my hearing aide fell out...and when I bent to pick it up the front legs of my walker slipped off the curb and I fell and broke a hip! And he thinks I'm old? At least no one asked if I was his Grandmother!
